The Role of Interpreters in Primary & Secondary Schools

Interpreters in primary and secondary schools play an important role in helping students fully participate in all educational experiences by:

  • Converting dialogue
  • Developing curriculum
  • Interpreting educational instruction
  • Communicating sound-based cues and information

Depending on the age and interest of each student, interpreters must also adapt their approach to support these students’ unique needs as they move through their education.

PTS’s Collaborative, Team-Based Approach

Our Clinical Directors facilitate in-service, multi-disciplinary trainings as well as communication and collaboration across service providers, teachers, and administrators. This means, as an interpreter in one of our partnering schools, you will have the opportunity to learn from professionals in other disciplines and share your expertise with fellow team members. By coordinating the delivery of services, we maximize benefits for students.

Ongoing Access to Support from Clinical Directors

Working Alongside PTS as an Independent Contractor

If you choose to engage with us, you will join an ever-growing network of over 2,000 independent contractors. For over 25 years, we have engaged with school-based pediatric service providers who find this model enables them to achieve the work-life balance that suits them best. In fact, nearly half of all our applicants have been referred to us by a current pediatric provider.

Our model differs from typical staffing agencies because we develop long-term relationships with the independent contractors who engage with us as well as with our partnering schools. PTS Clinical Directors continue to provide access to support. We also have a private community Facebook group, free resource library, and optional career advancement opportunities throughout the year.
