Tier It Up! MTSS for School-Based Therapy Teams

With the expansion of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Related Services providers are now considered specialized instructional support personnel (SISPs), expanding our role in school-based practice.  Under IDEA, school-based therapists were under the designation of related services providers, where the role was to assist the student with a disability to benefit from special education. Now under the ESSA, we can expand our services to regular education students to address the physical and mental health needs of students.  Utilizing a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), school-based therapists can and should support academic as well as social and emotional wellness through an early intervening, multi-tiered approach within general education. This course will teach fun and organic ways to integrate therapy seamlessly into the classroom and create rich experiences for students and staff to build capacity rather than dependency.
